One ISO for any 64-bit PC with UEFI. Write it to a USB stick, boot from it, and the installer walks you through the rest in about ten minutes.

The easy way

Zenith Installer

Downloads Zenith OS and writes it to a USB stick. One file, nothing to install. It can also remove Zenith from a disk again, leaving everything else as it was.

Write it to a USB stick by hand

  1. Any 8 GB stick. Everything on it is erased.
  2. Zenith Installer (above) does this for you. Otherwise balenaEtcher or Rufus (DD mode) with the ISO.
  3. On Linux: sudo dd if=zenith-*.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress oflag=sync
  4. Boot from the stick (UEFI). Secure Boot must be off for now.

Check the download

The checksum proves the file arrived intact; the signature proves it came from Zenith. The release key's fingerprint is

What the installer does

Shows exactly what it will erase before it starts. Encrypts the disk, sets up boot, snapshots, your account and updates. Beside another system it only uses free space and never resizes anything.

Updating later

Settings › Updates, or sudo zenith update. A snapshot is taken first. To see releases early, switch the channel to Testing on the same page. How updates work →
